Or, are sunglasses really more for fashion than function?

I suppose if you really think about this could be something of a personality test. When you need some new shades, do you head for that little carousel rack at the neares convience store? ... or are you off to the Mall in search of nearest Ray Ban counter?

I can tell you that I have never set foot in a Sun Glasses Hut, asked to try on a pair of glasses that lived in a mirrored case, or even owned a pair of shades that cost more than $50. Nope, I'm more of a, "hey let's head down to the nearest flea market and find a nice pair of knock-offs", kind of guy.

Because I LOSE STUFF !!!!!

I swear, I don't think I've ever owned a pair of sunglasses that stayed in my posession for more than a couple of months. I either lose them outright, or I do something stupid like leave them in the seat of my car ... where they invariably get sat on and broken.

Why in the world would I pay a couple hundred bucks for something that I'm likely to lose or break anyway?

Tell you what, I'm gonna stick to my plain black hoodie and cheap sunglasses, but for those of you who insist on owning expensive name brand shades, maybe you'll like these:

But when I called off all my chips earlier this evening, chasing a straight draw, after playing some decent poker for 2 1/2 hours, it sure might have been nice to have a sweatshirt hood to hide my face under while I sulked off into the night.

Of course the pro poker players don't use things like hoodies and sunglasses to hide the embarrassment of their bad play ... well maybe sometimes. Instead, the hood and shades serve as booth a way to distract opponents, as well as discreetly observe them ... while avoiding observation yourself.

The UnaBomber usually wears a grey hoodie.

But as you could probably guess, I myself prefer a nice plain black hooded sweatshirt ... even when I'm just sitting at the card table.

I've been playing poker for about 5 or 6 years now. However, the great majority of that time has been spent in the world of online betting, so I've never had the opportunity for "costumes". Now that I'm overseas in Iraq, the rec center here sponsors games 3 nights a week. It's free to enter, and the winner gets a $100 gift card. It's not really gambling per se ... but it sure is a fun way to spend an evening.

Actually, the title of my post is probably not quite honest. I don't think I would have been allowed to wear a hoodie while in uniform.

In past years, I haven't bothered to dress up. I just push the stroller and walk along with all the the other parents. However, this year will be one of my kid's last year of trick or treating (he's getting too old), and another ones first year that she will remember (was only 3 months old last year). As such, it would be a shame not to get into the spirit. I'm not quite sure what type of costumes the kids will wear ... that's a decision that my wife will make, and I probably have very little say in. Somehow I doubt they'll be wearing plain black hoodies ... but I have seen some pretty cool fleece hooded costumes in the store around town.

It's probaby a moot point anyway ... I wouldn't be at all shocked if we end up with something along the lines of a Ninja, Hanna Montana, and Baby Bop. In any case, I think I'm probably looking forward to the candy as much as the kids are.

Anyhow, here are a few more examples of people who are dressed well, but doing bad.

Personally, I like every one of my plain black hoodies, and I've never committed a crime in my life. And besides, if I wanted to dress like a criminal, I think I'd probably just be a bit more obvious about it ....

My son and I ran into this problem a couple of months ago when we were still in Hawaii. We went down to the Aloha Staduim flea market to get him a nice black hoodie to wear on the plane, during his trip back to the main land. I swear we must have been there for two hours, and gone to every booth in the market. The ironic thing is, we'd just been there a couple of weeks earlier, and at that time practically every vendor had racks full of sweat shirts. But on this day, they were few and far between.

Justin (my son) is really into skateboarding, so we were hoping we might find something by DC or Element for a little less than the $75+ that a name brand sweatshirt like that would cost us in the mall stores. But is seems like all they had at the stadium were dragons patterns, and "gansta gear". lol, there was even one zip-hoodie with a big marijuana leaf on the back. Of course the boy liked that one, but I could only imagine the phone call I would have gotten from his mom (my ex) as soon as he stepped off the plane.

In the end, we eventually found a booth, with plain hoodies. Of course, they were hiding way back behind piles of t-shirts, and we had to dig through the stacks, before we found a dark blue zippered one in Justin's size. We gave the guy his $18, and were on our way.

We might not have gotten the plain black hoodie we set out in search of, but all-in-all, it was a successful shopping trip.

I can't say that I blame her though. Whether you're a celebrity or not, not many items of clothing are better for bumming around, or going shopping on a Saturday afternoon, than your favorite old black hooded sweatshirt.
